Before you start looking at specific designs, you need to decide on the colour of the metal. Most people have a strong preference. Choosing a piece that matches what they already own ensures they can wear it alongside their favourite rings and necklaces immediately!

Check the Jewellery Box: Take a peek at their jewellery box or look through recent pictures: Do they exclusively wear Yellow Gold, is their collection mostly "white" metals like Silver or White Gold, or do they prefer the romantic, pinkish hue of Rose Gold?

Match the Undertones: If they don’t wear much jewellery yet, or if you want to try something new, think about their "undertone." A quick way to tell is to look at the veins on the inside of their wrist:

· Cool Undertones: If their veins look blue or purple, they usually look best in "cool" metals like Silver or White Gold.

· Warm Undertones: If their veins appear greenish, they usually have a "warm" undertone that is perfectly complemented by Yellow Gold.

· Neutral Undertones: If you see a mix of both, they can likely pull off any metal colour with ease! Rose Gold is particularly famous for being the most "universal" metal, as it beautifully complements almost every skin tone.

- Look at the Details: If you can't get a look at their jewellery box, check these two things:

The Watch: Is it gold-toned or silver-toned?

The Hardware: Look at their favourite handbag clasp or even the frames of their glasses. People often match their jewellery to these accessories!
